NieR Automata: All traders - list

This page of the NieR Automata game guide lists traders that appear in the game world. We explain where to find particular traders, the types of goods they stock, and whether there are any additional requirements to unlock the option to trade with these NPCs.

Key information about traders

The game world is inhabited by different traders and not all of them are available from the start. You may be unable to use the services of a given trader if you can't access their location or haven't sufficiently progressed the storyline. Additionally, it's worth keeping in mind that the stock of some traders can be changed or updated as you progress through the game and they may have new items for sale.

Traders can sell a variety of goods or specialize in a particular field. For example, they might exclusively sell chips or weapons. Traders with specific specializations are guaranteed to stock higher quality items.

The game allows you to sell your items, but keep in mind that selling unique objects or crafting ingredients is not recommended. These objects may be useful to you later in the game and getting rid of them too early might make it difficult to find more of them later on. We advise you to sell common items first, those of which you definitely have too many (the game allows you to have up to 99 of each item in your inventory). The interesting thing is that by progressing to the next Routes, you can sell the same inventory items for more money. This is an additional incentive to keep them in your inventory for longer and then sell them later to earn more gold.

Some traders offer additional services. For example, they might be able to upgrade weapons or pods, or combine your chips. It is worth using these services in order to upgrade your equipment and thereby increase the effectiveness of the controlled character on the battlefield.

Resistance Camp traders

The Supply Trader is available from the start of the game, and during the first visit to the camp in Chapter 2 you will receive the The Supply Trader's Request side quest from them. Completing it will allow you to progress further in the main storyline.

The Supply Trader sells healing items and other consumables, chips (mostly lower quality ones) as well as animal bait and sachet.

The Weapons Trader is available from the very beginning of the game, but before you can use their services you will first need to complete the The Weapon Dealer's Request side quest in Chapter 2.

The Weapons Trader sells unique melee weapons. You can also pay them to upgrade your weapons (only up to Level 3).

The Maintenance Shop Owner is available from the start of the game.

The Maintenance Shop Owner sells a variety of pod programs and storage slots, which allow you to install more chips. These are very important items and you should save up gold in the early game to buy them all. Additionally, you can upgrade pods and fuse your chips.

Devola and Popola are twins that appear in the camp in Chapter 8 of Route A, and you'll be able to view their stock starting from Chapter 9.

Devola and Popola sell unique melee weapons, some rare chips and various consumables.

City Ruins traders

Emil is a unique trader in the game. This character appears in various parts of the ruins starting from Chapter 7 and you have to shoot him to make him stop. We discussed this in more detail in the Emil's Item Shop quest walkthrough on the City Ruins side quest page.

Emil's stock changes depending on where the trader appears on the map:

1. Near the Resistance camp, Emil may sell unique weapons, rare crafting materials, or quality 6 chips - this is the highest quality level of items of this type.
2. Near the Desert Zone entrance, Emil can sell quality 3 chips or crafting materials.

Desert Zone traders

The Supply Trader is available from the start of the game. They are in the Desert Camp on the border of the City Ruins and the Desert Zone.

The Supply Trader sells healing items and other consumables, chips (mostly lower quality ones) as well as animal bait and sachet.

Amusement Park traders

The Shopkeeper Machine is a machine that's been showing up at the Amusement Park since the first visit in Chapter 4. You'll find them in one of the side alleys.

The Shopkeeper Machine sells various crafting ingredients. Initially, these are only common materials, but in the later phase of the campaign, their stock is expanded to include rarer ingredients.

Machine Village traders

The Tool Shop Machine is a machine that appears in the Machine Village from the start, i.e. from Chapter 5.

The Tool Shop Machine sells healing items and other consumables, chips (mostly lower quality ones) as well as animal bait and sachet.

The Weapons Trader Machine is a machine that appears in the Machine Village from the start, i.e. from Chapter 5.

The Weapons Trader Machine sells unique melee weapons. You can also pay the machine to upgrade your weapons (only up to Level 3).

Pascal will appear in the village as a trader after you decide to erase the memory of this machine during Route C/D. We discussed this in more detail in the Chapter 14 walkthrough.

Pascal can stock the Machine Heads unique weapon and rare crafting components.

Forest Zone traders

The Canyon Machine is a machine that gives you the Lord of the Valley side quest that begins in the ravine within the forest. You must complete this quest to unlock the trade option.

The Canyon Machine sells good quality chips (from Level 0 up to and including Level 5).

The Resistance Supply Trader will appear in the camp in the forest only after completing the Camp Development side quest which you can unlock in the Resistance Camp in Chapter 7, which requires you to help the rebels in setting up a base camp.

The Resistance Supply Trader sells healing items and other consumables, chips (mostly lower quality ones) as well as animal bait and sachet.

Forest Castle traders

The Forest Blacksmith Masamune is in a safe house in the castle grounds. We described in detail how to reach this blacksmith on the Level four weapons - how to get? page. Masamune's base will first be availabe in Chapter 6 of Route A.

Masamune sells unique melee weapons (the same as the Weapons Trader Machine from Machine Village). Other than that, as the only blacksmith they can upgrade weapons to the highest level 4. This is linked to some trophies and will of course allow you to upgrade weapon stats and unlock their unique passive features.

Bunker traders

Terminal is located in one of the bunker cabins and is available from the first visit to this location after completing the prologue. As you progress through the game, their stock will expand.

Terminal lets you buy healing items and other consumables and chips.

The Maintenance Shop Owner is a trader who only appears in the bunker after progressing to Route B. They can be found in one of the larger storage rooms.

The Maintenance Shop Owner sells a variety of pod programs and storage slots, which allow you to install more chips. Additionally, you can use this character's services to upgrade pods and fuse chips.
