Hogwarts Legacy: Secrets of the Restricted Section

Rewards for completing the quest

1. XP;
2. Disillusionment unlocked - the spell allows the player to assume stealth mode, useful in sneaking and avoiding detection;
3. Tomes and Tribulations story quest unlocked.

Return to Professor Fig's classroom

The quest in question becomes available after completing Professor Hecat's Assignment I task i.e. after learning the Incendio spell.

After talking to Professor Fig, you have to meet with the student he indicated, and in our case, it was Sebastian (small choice during the conversation - reveal the events from the prologue, or keep them to yourself).

Meet in the Central Hall at night

The plan is to sneak into the library and you can wait for the nighttime at the quest marker (otherwise, you can change the time of day from the map screen (R3)).

Before you embark on the task, your companion will teach you Disillusionment - open the spell set (d-pad right) and place the spell in one of the 4 active spell slots.

Sneak into the Library

Start by activating the spell - disillusionment is active at all times and doesn't use any energy.

Nevertheless, don't forget that this is only a camouflage - your character is not completely invisible. You can be detected if, for example, you meet face to face at close range with a person or they are close enough. Sneak through only when the guards are turned the other way. Go down the stairs.

The entrance to the library is straight ahead . Avoid the single guard on the right and wait for the 2 guards on the left to turn to each other.

Get the key from the librarian's desk

You'll encounter the librarian - turn left to hide behind rows of books.

Go around the benches from the left to find yourself behind the librarian. Stay where you are and wait for your companion to distract her.

The librarian will go right. Use the opportunity to quickly approach the desk and search it - you will find the Library Key.

Hide behind the shelves and wait for the librarian to turn the other way . Only then reach the gate that you can open with the newly found key.

Find the book

You'll find yourself in the Restricted Section and you can go straight to the stairs leading to the basement.

Once in the basement, you must avoid being detected by ghosts - here distraction will prove useful. Aim at walls or shelves and use Basic Cast - the ghost will go investigate the source of the noise.

Once you're past the ghosts, you'll reach another stairs, descending even further down. You can turn disillusionment off now, as you won't encounter any guards here.

While exploring the basement, you'll find a damaged suit of armor - select Reparo from the spell list (d-pad right) and use it to repair the armor - this action will unlock the path further.

Search for the secret hidden in the Restricted Section

Head down the next stairs. Locate the magic circle and interact with it.

Go through the blue gate. The linear route will lead you to the entrance to The Athenaeum.

In the new area, you can focus on reaching your destination or explore the area more thoroughly in order, for example, to find chests with loot.

Hit the blue button with magic - this will cause the nearby bridge to slide apart.

In the next area, there be some guards patrolling - fight them. After the area is cleared, continue forward. You'll encounter new buttons that have to be hit with magic. Moreover, some bridges may be revealed only moments before stepping on them.

Eliminate the encountered guards (preferably one by one) and reach the chamber with the levitating book . After the cut-scene, you'll be back in the Library and the quest will be concluded.
