Both political parties are gearing up for what is going to be a cutthroat 2022 election race. While campaigning for former Virginia Gov. Terry McAuliffe, US President Joe Biden was faced with hecklers at the rally.
Biden encountered some hecklers at a campaign rally for McAuliffe in Arlington, Virginia, over the weekend. Biden stepped in the campaign trail for McAuliffe, who is looking to reclaim the governorship in November, facing off against Republican Glenn Youngkin. McAuliffe, who served as the state’s governor from 2014 to 2018, also served as the chair of the Democratic National Committee.
During his remarks, protesters against an oil pipeline started interrupting Biden. The crowd had attempted to drown out the protesters, but when they persisted, Biden brushed off the heckling and even took a swipe at his predecessor, Donald Trump.
“Let ‘em talk…that’s okay. This is not a Trump rally. Let ‘em holler. Nobody’s paying attention to them,” said Biden in the midst of his remarks for McAuliffe. With the 2022 midterms on the horizon, Biden looks to prop up Democrats down the ballot.
As Biden campaigned for McAuliffe, he also compared Youngkin to Trump. “You got to elect him again, and I mean this not just for Virginia, for the country,” said the US leader. “The country is looking, these off-year elections, the country is looking. This is a big deal. Terry and I share a lot in common. I ran against Donald Trump, and so is Terry and I whipped Donald Trump in Virginia and so will Terry.”
Meanwhile, Biden is now six months into his presidential term, and his approval rating remains steady, according to CNN. This may be attributed to Biden not having as much news interest as his predecessor. Biden’s approval rating is also the most steady for any president since World War I.
Biden’s average approval rating is at 53 percent. From the first six months of his presidency so far, Biden’s average approval rating has never reached more than 55 percent but never dipped below 51 percent in the average of polls. Back in April, Biden had a 53 percent rating, and in May, Biden had 54 percent.
