TheSixthAxis: 8 / 10 by Miguel Moran
Ys X: Nordics maintains a lot of the qualities that this series has come to be known for. Some of those qualities aren't necessarily a positive, like the familiarly linear dungeon encounters and the less-than-impressive visuals of the game, but a lot of it works great. Combat is the best it's ever been, naval gameplay is a fresh and welcome addition, and Ys X: Nordics introduces refreshing character moments with Adol and Karja that I'm desperate to see more of in the next entry.
Cubed3: 6 / 10 by Eric Ace
Ys X: Nordics isn't a bad game, but it's not great either. The graphics don't look any better than when Ys VIII came out years ago on older systems. The story and characters are passable, but in a crowded field of games, this isn't enough anymore. The time spent on this game felt more like a reminder of what it could have been rather than an entertaining adventure. One's enjoyment of this is going to be directly proportional to if someone wants 'more of the same' of the recent Falcom formula. It is clearly selling, so the trend is likely to continue for better or worse, but there is a lot here that is tough to recommend except for diehard series fans.
SteamDeckHQ: 4 / 5 by Noah Kupetsky
Ys X: Nordics is one of the best entries in the Ys series thanks to great on-foot combat, an engaging cast of characters, and beautiful visuals, even though the general story, variety of locations, and naval combat could have been improved. It is also wonderfully optimized, making it near perfect for the Steam Deck.

Ys X: Nordics Description
Ys X: Nordics is the tenth installment in a series of action jRPGs originating from 1987. It was developed by Nihon Falcom, also known for the series The Legend of Heroes.
Plot
Ys X: Nordics is set after Ys IX: Monstrum Nox. Young adventurer Adol Christin leaves the ancient Kingdom of Ys and sets out north, meeting a seafaring civilization, the Normans. Over time, he learns more about the people and the greatest threat to them, the immortal undead called Griegers.
Mechanics
Ys X: Nordics is a third-person game expanding upon the ideas introduced in the previous installments of the series. The player traverses the land, completes quests, fights enemies, developing the player character and his party. The game does, however, introduce some significant novelties.
The primary new mechanic is a ship. The player can sail between the islands, use nautical maps for navigation and take part in naval battles. The combat was changed as well, as a new system was added to it. Cross Action lets us choose between two combat modes; "solo mode" has us controlling a single character, with the other companions attacking automatically, while "combination mode" has us controlling two characters at once, chaining their attacks into flashy combos.
Technical aspects
Ys X: Nordics features colorful, manga-like high-quality visuals.
