Destructoid: 8 / 10 by Steven Mills
Even over a decade later, Freedom Wars Remastered is an extremely satisfying endeavor with the constant reward of seeing your million-year sentence drop lower and lower as you progress, a feeling that’s been a bit absent in this 10-year window since the original.
Noisy Pixel: 7.5 / 10 by Azario Lopez
Freedom Wars Remastered revitalizes the 2014 PS Vita cult classic, delivering an exciting blend of narrative depth, intense combat, and community-driven gameplay. While the menus and crafting system remain a challenge, the game's unique setting and gripping gameplay loop make it a rewarding experience for fans of the hunting genre.
PPE.pl: 7 / 10 by Wojciech Gruszczyk
A simple remaster of a Vita classic. It's hard to talk about rapture, but also knowing what the original offered, one can't particularly criticize the premise.
The main pros of the game
- Nostalgia and Faithfulness to Original: Many players appreciated the remaster's ability to capture the essence of the original *Freedom Wars* on the PS Vita, evoking fond memories.
- Visual and Performance Improvements: Upgrades include higher resolution textures, improved sound design, and a smoother 60 FPS gameplay experience compared to the original's 30 FPS.
- Gameplay Enhancements: Users noted improvements in gameplay mechanics, such as a more intuitive control scheme, better weapon customization options, and less grindy systems for upgrades.
- Character Customization: The ability to customize the player's "Accessory" character dialogue adds a fun and personal touch to the gameplay.
- Co-op and PvP Modes: The game retains its multiplayer aspects, allowing for cooperative play and player-versus-player (PvP) modes.
The main cons of the game
- Technical Issues: A significant number of users reported crashes, frame rate drops, and performance inconsistencies, particularly on certain hardware configurations. Many recommended waiting for patches before purchasing.
- Control Problems: Mouse and keyboard controls were criticized as clunky and poorly implemented, leading to a subpar experience compared to controller use.
- Voice Acting Criticism: The text-to-speech (TTS) used for robotic characters was described as awkward and mispronouncing words, leading to a distracting experience for some players. This was a point of contention, as many reviews mistakenly referred to it as "AI voice acting."
- Limited Graphics Options: Players noted the remaster lacked extensive graphical settings and options compared to modern PC games, making it feel somewhat dated.
The features or elements that are missing from the game according to users
- Ultrawide Monitor Support: There was a notable absence of support for ultrawide monitors, with the game only displaying in a 16:9 aspect ratio.
- More Robust Control Customization: Users expressed a desire for more flexibility in control schemes, particularly for mouse and keyboard players.
- Immediate Language Options: The option to switch to Japanese voice acting was not available until after completing part of the tutorial, which frustrated some players.
- Expanded Content: Some players hoped for additional content or features that would modernize the gameplay experience further, such as a broader variety of environments and enemies.
Summary
- Overall, while FREEDOM WARS Remastered has garnered a mixed response, many fans of the original game enjoy the nostalgia and improvements, though technical issues and control difficulties have marred the experience for others.

Freedom Wars Remastered Description
Freedom Wars Remastered is a refreshed version of the action RPG produced by Sony Interactive Entertainment, originally released for PS Vita in 2014. The game combines elements known the Monster Hunter with Thorn mechanics, evoking associations with Just Cause and Amazing Spider-Man series. Dimps Corporation is responsible for creating the remaster.
Plot
Freedom Wars presents a dystopian vision of the distant future in which people live in large walled cities known as the Panopticon. Our hero is sentenced to one million years in prison due to the oppressive actions of the Panopticon. To shorten his sentence, he undertakes dangerous missions to free citizens captured by giant mechanical monsters called Abductors. He also slowly uncovers the conspiracy.
Gameplay
After creating our character, we wake up in a cell, being under constant observation. Sleeping or running to the store are privileges that come at a price and add years to our sentence. To reduce it, we set out on missions to rescue citizens from the hands of large mechanical monsters, previously selecting equipment and four team members.
Weapons come in many types, allowing for shooting or engaging in hand-to-hand combat. Both in combat and when moving around, we are aided by the Thorn wrapped around our wrist, which acts similarly to a hook. We can attach it to buildings, containers, walls and enemies, as well as grab items and "revive" teammates.
The combat in Freedom Wars requires strategic thinking. Abductors appear in different forms and consist of separately treated elements - legs, arms, weapons, etc. We can deprive them of body parts and then upgrade our own weapon with them. The production time of items is shortened by assigning rescued citizens to this task. Apart from the Abductors, we face fast and agile convicts from other Panopticons.
The game also has stealth elements.
Compared to the original, Freedom Wars Remastered adds difficulty settings and improves the weapon crafting system.
Graphics
In Freedom Wars Remastered we are dealing with textures, models, and interface in higher resolution, including 4K.
